Who we are
Lara Hood and Nick Napier are a dynamic architectural duo, combing strong design skills with an emphasis on quality and attention to detail. This small award winning niche practice prides itself on taking each project through from conceptual design, through thorough documentation and working drawings, to contract administration and interior design, if required. With the option of 3d computer generated walkthroughs, the client is involved in every step of the design process.

The team believes that each job should be a unique result of the process of working with an individual client, brief, site and budget. They enjoy working in a South African context with an emphasis on strong form, texture, and the interplay of light and shadow, as a response to our natural materials and harsh climatic conditions. With the site and brief as the generators for the design, and a passion for meeting the needs of their individual client’s, Hood Napier strives to create a unique response to each new design challenge.

Adhering to the principles of “organic” architecture, Lara and Nick believe that a building should “grow” in the course of the design process, as a result of it’s function, it’s inhabitants, it’s response to it’s context and location, and the materials used to construct it. The relationship of living spaces , route, direction and axes are all important design elements. The team at Hood Napier works closely with their clients so that the final home or project reflects the clients own unique sense of place and lifestyle.
